Summer 2016

Summer 2016 started with Amber ending the school year in early June and getting to be a a stay-at-home mom to London for the summer.  John continued to work at the golf course as his busy season was just beginning.

Amber and London celebrated the soon-to-arrive Holly in Stevens Point.  The next day we all met Amber's mom and step-dad in Milwaukee for a Brewers Game as an early Father's Day celebration.  Amber and London then traveled to Appleton to help Amber's Grandma Betty recover from knee surgery.

The next weekend Amber and John traveled to Miller Park again, but this time it was to attend the Kenny Chesney/Miranda Lambert/Little Big Town/Old Dominion Concert.  It was awesome!  The following weekend we had our annual Fireworks Fiesta to celebrate Freedom Fest.  The fireworks were amazing as usual and the company was as fun as ever!

July started with Mitch and Madalina's wedding in Madison.  It was a beautiful day and a lot of fun!  The next day we, along with John's sister Michelle, went to Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison since it was such a sunny day.  Two days later we celebrated our 7 year anniversary by eating our traditional anniversary dinner of Mexican food at El Jardin.  Later that week John and Amber traveled to Milwaukee to see Luke Bryan in concert and to spend some time with Amber's brother and sister-in-law.

The next weekend Amber went back to Milwaukee to meet up with her music girlfriends from college for the weekend.  They had fun talking, getting pedicures and walking along the Milwaukee River.

The next week we met up with Amber's brother Adam to go to the Milwaukee County Zoo for the day.  We also traveled to Appleton/Green Bay the next weekend for London to run a 1K race at Lambeau Field, for Amber and John to run a 5K race at Lambeau Field and to attend Lily's birthday party.  It was a jam-packed-summer-fun weekend for sure!

The last week in July London started swim lessons (this year she got to swim all by herself), we went to the Rock County 4H Fair and headed to Madison to see Concerts on the Square. That weekend Amber and London went to Appleton to order a flower girl dress for London and go to Bay Beach with Megan and Lily and then John met us in Green Bay to attend Packer Family Night for the first time.  It was awesome!

The first two weeks of August were pretty uneventful.  London finished swim lessons and passed with flying colors, she also attended her first year of vacation bible school at church and loved it and we did a lot of house cleaning in preparation for our German relatives to arrive later that month.

Katarina was the first to arrive in Janesville on August 12th.  Amber's Grandma Betty, Mom Diane and Stepdad Steve all came to Janesville too!  We traveled to the Wisconsin State Fair to see the animals and eat some yummy food on a stick!

A few days later Angie, Verena and Josef came after their trip out west.  While they were here we went to Devil's Lake hiking and tasted beer at New Glarus Brewing Company.  Diane, Amber, Josef and Verena went to Lambeau Field for a pre-season Packer Game against the Raiders, we all took a river boat ride with Susie and ate some awesome Italian food at Victoria's Restaurant.  We were even interviewed by the Appleton Post Crescent news paper about our unique "family" connection.  As always, it was hard to say goodbye but after a fun 10 days they had to head home.

The end of August had Amber going back to work, Amber and John attending Chuck and Tiffany's wedding and London getting ready to start preschool.

Spring 2016

Spring came this year with fairly warm temperatures and John getting back to work at Glen Erin early.  Amber had concerts at school and John and London came to watch.  We spent the first few weekends relaxing at home and then went up to Stevens Point for John's dad's annual bowling tournament to benefit Dapper Deer (his white-tailed deer themed clothing line).  Bowling with some of John's siblings was fun as always and later that night Amber and John got to meet up with Greg and Ellen for dinner while London stayed with Grandma Mary and Papa Mike.  It was a nice little trip!

The next weekend was Easter.  London and Amber went to an Easter Egg Hunt in Janesville with friends Sue and Allison.  London got to meet the Easter Bunny and just like with Santa Claus she was not afraid of going up to talk with him.  We woke up on Easter Sunday with gifts from the Easter Bunny, colored Easter eggs and then headed to church.  Later that afternoon Grandma Diane, Papa Steve and Auntie Michelle came down to Janesville for Easter Dinner.  We had ham, cheesy potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls and dessert.  It was nice to celebrate and host dinner for everyone.

The next day Amber and her friend Melissa flew to Seattle to see the sights and hang out with Amber's cousin Matthias.  His internship moved him from New York to Seattle.  Both Amber and Melissa had never been to Seattle so it was a perfect way to see the city and spend some time with Matthias.  They had a great time seeing the sights, drinking many craft beers and walking a lot!  The weather was sunny and in the upper 60's and low 70's which made the trip even better!  They can't wait to go back...maybe next time they'll bring their husbands.

The month of April came with some warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours.  We had to go to Frosty Freeze for our first soft serve ice cream cones of the season.

The next weekend the Beeman family and the Oberstadt family all came to Janesville to hang out.  We had fun letting the kids play, grilling brats and burgers and chatting.  It's always nice to see friends!  The middle of April was Stevens Point Trivia.  John was in Stevens Point from Friday until Monday and Amber, London and Auntie Michelle came up for the weekend to cheer on Festivus for the Rest of Us!  FFTROU won this year!  It was an exciting weekend for everyone!

Soon it was May and John was working a lot of hours at Glen Erin, Amber was in the midst of crazy end-of-school things and London was getting ready for her first dance recital.  Amber and John also had a date night while London had a girls night with Auntie Michelle and the next day we all got to see the musical "Pinkalicious" at the Janesville Armory and have a yummy lunch at Citrus Cafe.

The next weekend was busy but very fun.  On Friday May 20th London performed in her very first dance recital.  She did a great job dancing ballet to "High Hopes."  It was so cute to see her class (made up of 3 and 4 year olds) working so hard on their moves and smiling at the audience.  London has loved her first year of dance class and will continue taking dance this coming fall.  The next day we headed up to Green Bay/Appleton because on Sunday May 22nd John and Amber's brother Adam ran in the Green Bay Cellcom Half Marathon at Lambeau Field.  Both John and Adam beat their times from last year and it was a nice day for us spectators too!

We finished off the month of May with a fun time in Madison on Memorial Day weekend.  We spent some time walking around State Street and Capital Square, had dinner at The Great Dane and then ended the evening with a visit to Brat Fest for some rides and fireworks!

Spring brought Amber a trip to Seattle, John a Trivia win, London a first dance recital and we had some great times hanging out as a family.  Overall it was pretty awesome!  Until next time...Go Pack Go!
